Day of RS Pale klix.baAlthough the Constitutional Court of B&H reached a decision declaring the Day of Republika Srpska (RS) unconstitutional, residents of the smaller B&H entity yesterday marked the January 9, Day of Republika Srpska.

By placing flags on windows, balconies and cars, the citizens of RS marked the Day of Republika Srpska across the entity.

Central political ceremony was held in Banja Luka. Apart from representatives of political and social life of RS, the ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić together with ministers from the Government of Serbia.

It was festive in the Municipality of Pale as well, located in the vicinity of Sarajevo. Streets and residential facilities in Pale were decorated with flags of the RS.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of RS, referring to the Law on Holidays of RS, earlier announced that January 9 is a non-working day.

As a reminder, in late November 2015 the Constitutional Court of B&H declared the Day of RS unconstitutional and decided that the National Assembly of the RS should harmonize the disputed act of the Law on Holidays of RS with the Constitution of B&H.

Afterwards, in a joint statement the Serb officials stated that January 9 will still be celebrated as the day of RS in that B&H entity.
