airportIn accordance with the increase in the number of passengers whose record number is expected in 2016, the Sarajevo International Airport is currently experiencing an expansion in terms of developmental projects. For the past several months, works are being executed at the most frequent airport in BiH on the rearrangement of the existing capacities, with the aim of providing better service to passengers and other users.

Optimization of capacities of the airport terminal represents an exceptionally complex and demanding project. So far, the arrivals terminal has been expanded, and its surface is larger by 70 percent now. With the placement of more counters for passport control in this area, the number of entrances and exits will also increase, which will directly reflect on the speed of passenger control.

The opened counter communication for customs in public and protected zone enables the passengers the unhindered communication with customs officers. As of now, the passengers can use the new counter communication “Lost and Found” in the protected zone, so that now they have the possibility to communicate with airport staff from both public and protected zone.

The works also include the modernization of the luggage track, which will result in faster and more efficient processing of passengers. Moreover, with the optimization of the terminals the plan was to increase the number of counters for passenger registration and luggage registration from 12 to 15, which will speed up their processing in this segment.

“The works planned in the coming period are construction of the fast exit taxiway, which will contribute to the better quality of plane traffic, and the expansion of the parking space. Reconstruction of the runway is one of the greatest and most demanding projects,” the Airport stated.

Among the works in the coming period, also highlighted are construction of a VIP lounge and reconstruction of the restaurant in the Terminal.
