The Sarajevo-Belgrade Highway will have 62 Bridges and 22 Tunnels

The path goes through Republika Srpska, but not over the existing route due to ecologists’ requests that the national park Mokra Gora be circumvented.

The highway will have two driving and one stopping lanes. The designers say that a part of the highway through Serbia will be the most difficult to construct, so 60 kilometers will cost as much as 760 million Euros.

“This highway is 60, 65 kilometers long and we have 62 bridges and 22 tunnels on it,” Dragoslav Dragicevic, the head designer of Cipa said.

In Cipa, Turkey says it is interested in building not only roads in Serbia, but also railways.

Due to the large influx of goods from the Middle East and the increasing restrictions on ecologists in trucking, Turkey is demanding that the Nis-Dimtrovgrad-Bulgaria-Turkey railroad be rebuilt and adapted for higher speeds as soon as possible.

“This is a two-lane track for speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour and this route will be designed without crossing roads so nothing will interfere with rail traffic, and this railroad will be adequate for Serbia for the next 50 years,” Cipa Director Milutin Ignjatovic said.

The Chinese are also interested in the railroad across Serbia, as it is their fastest land connection to Europe from the cargo ports in the south. Turkey wants to get the railway ready as soon as possible and is ready to fund the project.
