On the occasion of the celebration of April 6, Sarajevo Canton Police Day and Sarajevo City Day, Minister of Internal Affairs Sarajevo Canton Admir Katica and Police Commissioner Fatmir Hajdarević visited the memorials and paid tribute to the killed and fallen police officers.
Minister Katica congratulated Police Day, pointing out that this day is an opportunity to highlight the achieved goals and plans of the police, but also to remember all police officers who honorably and courageously, wearing police uniforms, gave their lives for the peace and freedom of Bosnia and Herzegovina and for security of citizens.
“The Sarajevo Canton Police, regardless of the numerous challenges it currently faces, I responsibly assert, is a strong police force that readily responds to all security risks in the Sarajevo Canton. Today, from this place, I want to send a message to all the citizens of Sarajevo Canton that we understand their fears and apprehensions when certain criminal acts happen, but always remember that you can count on your police and that the police will do everything to protect you and your property, and to bring the perpetrators of criminal acts to justice. This city has never been and never will be a place of unsafe living. This is a hero city that bravely and undefeated came out of the most difficult situations. The Sarajevo Canton Police will continue to guard this city, and all those who want to feel our tradition, hospitality and the spirit of Sarajevo are welcome. We will provide them with the necessary protection and security, and never doubt us,” said Minister Katica.
The members of the Special Police Unit, the Intervention Police Unit, the Operational Support Unit and the Intervention Platoons in the police administrations were ceremonially lined up, addressed by the Inspector General of Police, Fatmir Hajdarević.
“We live and perform police work in very challenging times. But I don’t doubt us. I have no doubt that we will remain upright, strong and determined to do our best to protect each of our neighbors and guests – without exception. We have to leave that to our children and those who will be standing in this machine in 20 years. We must not and will not betray our homeland, our city and our fellow citizens. To all my colleagues, active and retired police officers, civil servants and state employees, with thanks for the professional, conscientious and work they do with pride, I congratulate Sarajevo Canton Police Day, and I congratulate all citizens on Sarajevo City Day,” said Commissioner Hajdarević.
Police officers of the Police Support Sector conducted a tactical demonstration exercise.
Earlier today, delegations from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Administration laid flowers at the memorials of murdered police officers Davor Vujinović, Adis Šehović and Muhidin Pivodić, as well as at the burial sites of Mahmut Traka and Elvedin Madeško.
Tributes were paid at the Kovači Martyr’s Cemetery and the grave of the first President of RBiH Alija Izetbegović, in front of the Eternal Flame, at the memorial to the murdered children of the besieged Sarajevo in 1992-1995, at the Vraca Memorial Park, as well as at the memorials of the “First Brigade of Police Stari Grad” and The Special Purpose Police Detachment “Lasta” and the murdered policemen in Veliki Park and the Memorial Room in the KS MUP, was announced by the KS MUP.
