Sarajevo_WED-2013_PLAKATUnder the organization of the UNEP Program, the government of BiH and many local partners and sponsors will hold a series of activities from 3-5 June in Sarajevo to mark World Environment Day, as a host for this day for the region of Europe.

The topic of this year’s World Environment Day is on reducing waste from food and is taking place under the motto “Misli.Jedi.Štedi (Think.Eat.Save)”.

“The main message of the event in Sarajevo is “Zato što brinemo: dijelimo” (Because we care), and will be held in three aspects of sharing ideas around which all activities are concentrated-sharing of food, information, knowledge’’, announced the team for the organization of World Environment Day in Sarajevo.

The message reflects the concept of sharing as a universal answer to the global challenges of today and reflects the tradition of BIH and Sarajevo that includes helping fellow citizens, families, neighbors, and foreigners with the greatest care, and sharing meals with those who need it.

As part of the celebrations there will be a number of activities such as a roundtable on sharing and innovations and screenings of the documentary film “Okusi otpad”.

Citizens will have the opportunity to participate in a public celebration of World Environment Day on Vilsonovo šetalište, where there will be a bicycle event for children and youth and preparations for the traditional Spanish meal Paella. There will also be two exhibitions.

On World Environment Day, the BiH Presidency will be the host of a central event ot mark this important day in our country, and a report will be presented on the environmental state in BiH, and awards will be handed out for a competition on reporting on the environment of the OSCE Mission in BIH.

Every year on 5 June, people throughout the world celebrate World Environment Day. Hundreds of thousands of activists aimed at improving the environment and a better future of the earth takes place in almost every country in the world.
