Markan. A Sarajevo legend who sold newspapers on city streets for years has died in his hometown. He left quietly, Klix.ba news portal reports.

Marko Didoi, the son of an Italian and a Bosnian woman, better known as Markan, was no ordinary salesman of the daily press.

At Markan’s, Sarajevans, of all walks of life, knew how to go and buy newspapers because he always had a special story, anecdote or topicality. Markan followed everything, from politics to music, but he loved sports the most.

He would be able to “recite” the composition of Sarajevo, Željezničar, Dinamo, Hajduk, Crvena Zvezda, Partizan and other teams of the First League or the national team of Yugoslavia from 30, 40 or more years ago without any problems. Markan knew how to give an analysis of political reality, but also to tell a joke.

Upon learning that Markan had left this world on the Emperor’s Bridge, where he spent his days, the people of Sarajevo left flowers and the message “Markan, legend! Sleep peacefully. Your Bistrik”.

Marko will be buried in the Bare City Cemetery on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
