To mark the 36th anniversary of the death of Josip Broz Tito, a ceremony of honoring and laying flowers, was today held in the park on Sarajevo University campus.
The citizens of Sarajevo paid tribute to Tito, longtime president of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The President of Yugoslavia and of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, died on May 4, 1980 in a hospital in Ljubljana at 15:05 hours.
His death was marked every year throughout all Yugoslavia.
At the time of his death, 3:05 pm, sirens would sound and every individual would stand still, no matter where they were or what they were doing, and pay tribute with a minute of silence.
”We are here today to honor and pay our respects to a man with a big heart and mind, the triple hero of the revolution, a great statesman, soldier, humanist, visionary and fighter for workers’ rights, a prominent anti-fascist, the leader of the Non-Aligned Movement, and a prominent historical figure of the twentieth century,” said a member of the Governing Board SABNOAR’s Fatima Huseinovic.
Members of the Association “Josip Broz Tito” and many citizens of Sarajevo gathered together and laid flowers at the memorial to pay tribute and to remember the person and work of Josip Broz Tito.
The organizers of this event were the Main Board of SDP BiH, and the Association “Josip Broz Tito” of Sarajevo.
