Sattler: BiH demands EU Candidate Status while rejecting legal Reforms, which is disappointing

Johann Sattler, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), wrote on his Twitter profile after the House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) and BiH overturned the Law on the Prevention of Conflicts of Interest, as well as aligning EU sanctions to Russia.

On Thursday, the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (PABiH) adopted the Decision on the request for granting candidate status for BiH under the accelerated procedure, so that such an initiative would be sent to the EU. At that session, the delegates refused to accept the proposal of the Law on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest, as well as the harmonization of the reaction of BiH with the reaction of the EU.

Such behavior rightly angers the international community, given that we are asking them to open the doors of the Union to us at the same time as we reject their regulations.

Apart from that, Sattler referred to the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament, probably due to the adopted amendments that create additional confusion in the Law on the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places in the FBiH.

“A disappointing day in parliaments yesterday. Demands for candidate status while voting down a key rule of laws reforms. Failure to align with EU measures against Russia. And hollowed out smoking ban which doesn’t really apply. Another day of missed opportunities,” Sattler noted yesterday.
