Save the Children – Children Can Seek Justice Through the UN

OP3_CF_International coalition of nongovernmental organizations for children’s rights “Ratifikujte OP3CRC” invites states to ratify the optional protocol on communication procedures to the Convention of Children’s Rights (OP3 CRC) and emphasizes that the UN will be better prepared to respond to the violation of children’s rights and will enhance pressure on governments to ensure respect for children’s rights.

“Children are victims of human rights violation across the world. They face child labor and they are subject to sexual and other forms of violation. They are often neglected by those who make decisions, and their wishes and opinions are ignored. So far, regardless of the fact that almost all the countries of the world have ratified the Convention, the UN Convention on children’s rights still represents the only  international human rights treaty, which has no mechanisms that would allow victims to access international tribunals if they are unable to obtain justice in their countries”, announces Save the Children.

Members of coalition “Ratifikujte OP3CRC” invite countries around the world to ratify this agreement, in order for children to have access to UN tribunals as soon as possible. States have no obligation to respect this agreement if they do not ratify it.

The agreement will enter into force in three months, after Costa Rica ratified it on 14 January 2014.
