Schwarz Schilling on the Situation in RS

schwarz-schillingFormer High Representative in BiH, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, said that BiH is in constant “erosion”, because its unity is not supported enough and because it allows one entity to hold a referendum that is contrary to the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH, while the international community makes it clear that it is against the referendum, but does not take any decisive action in order to prevent it.

As he said, in majority of cases, in analyzes of the international community is stated that it is only Dodik’s rhetoric, but that is, according to Schwarz-Schilling, wrong.

“Milorad Dodik is planning and he is concentrated on a single goal, to separate the Republika Srpska from BiH and create new country,” he said, adding that the international community, declaring such statements as just plain rhetoric, foresees that these are concrete moves of the President of RS to realize his goal.

This referendum that was held in the RS, in the opinion of the former High Representative, was just a precursor to the next referendum to block the entry of BiH into NATO, and that will be a tactical move whose final aim is to separate the RS from BiH.

“The longer the international community is waiting and just observing this process and not undertaking positive measures against it, the more difficult it will be to maintain the unity of BiH and its institutions created by the Dayton Agreement for maintaining the multi-ethnic state,” he warned.

Taking all into account, the former High Representative in BiH concluded that the most important issues in BiH are the introduction of separation of powers, independence of institutions, the de-politicization of the real issues and the need for the international community to be sincere once again and demonstrate the power in order for OHR to act once again.
