SturgeonChairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić met with the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, who is visiting our country, in the residence of the British Ambassador to BiH Edward Ferguson.

Zvizdić thanked for the previous significant friendly support of the United Kingdom in the process of BiH integration into the EU and NATO. He said that it is evident that BiH is high on the list of priorities of UK’s foreign policy and that he strives to put BiH on the agenda of priorities of European Union as well.

Zvizdić informed the First Minister Sturgeon with the current political situation in BiH and with the degree of implementation of aims from the Reform Agenda. He said that the coordination mechanism was finalized last week and that by establishing this body the BiH authorities met the final condition that will enable BiH to obtain a positive opinion by the EU and that enabled the start of preparations of the questionnaire for BiH.

Zvizdić expressed satisfaction with the fact that European path can now not be stopped.

During the meeting, Sturgeon stated: “I am very happy I visited Bosnia and Herzegovina, where I was welcomed wholeheartedly. Although our two countries are geographically distant, I am pleasantly surprised with the warmth that many people in BiH show when they talk about Scotland. Scotland has longtime relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and during the conflicts in the 1990s Scotland provided help and support to those who needed it. Today’s and yesterday’s meeting contributed to better understanding of the progress achieved in BiH over the past years, as well as the future priorities of the country. I would like to see in which way we can take advantage of the memory of what happened in the 1990s in order to support the fight against intolerance and hatred anywhere in the world”.

Chairman Zvizdić and Minister Sturgeon also discussed economic cooperation of the two countries and agreed that there is space for improvement of cooperation in the future.
