Sokolac and Pale are marking 28 years since the emigration of Sarajevo Serbs, after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. A memorial service for the dead was held on Sokolac, and the spiritual academy will be held at the Cultural and Sports Center in Pale.
A memorial service was held in the monastery of the Holy Great Martyr Georgi in Ravna Romanija.
The memorial service, which was officiated by Archimandrite Andrej, abbot of the monastery in Ravna Romanija, was attended by the representative of the member of the Presidency of BiH from the Serbian people, Boško Tomić, the representative of the President of the Republika Srpska Uroš Bjelica, the Minister of Labor and Veterans’ and Disability Protection of the RS Danijel Egić, the President of the Veterans’ Organization RS Radan Ostojić, member of the NSRS Damjan Škipina, as well as the mayors of the municipalities of Sokolac Milovan Bjelica and Pale Boško Tomić.
After the memorial service, wreaths and flowers are placed on the Central Cross of this memorial complex.
Sarajevo Serbs left their homes in the Sarajevo settlements of Ilidža, Ilijaš, Hadžići, Grbavica, Vraca, Rajlovac and Vogošća 27 years ago.
Emigration represents a series of events that followed the signing of the Dayton Agreement, when five municipalities of the then Serbian Sarajevo as a whole belonged to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the other five were divided between the Republic of Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
