Republika Srpska Ministry of Interior members arrested two people in Banja Luka last night on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Radenko Basic, head of the Prijedor criminal police sector, Republika Srpska Police Director Sinisa Kostresevic told RTRS.

Kostresevic says that the detainees are currently under criminal investigation and that after the arrest they informed the Prosecutor’s Office in Prijedor and the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Kostresevic did not want to reveal more details, and ATV states that one of those arrested is suspected to be the direct executor, and he has been known to the police since before and has already been convicted of murder.

The head of the Criminal Police Sector of the Prijedor Police Administration, Radenko Basic was killed on March 21 with a firearm in the Prijedor settlement of Pecani.

The killer approached him from behind and fired a shot into his head.

Earlier, the media reported that a large operation was carried out during the night in Banja Luka and that the suspects for participation in the murder were being arrested.

The Ministry of the Interior of the Republika Srpska confirmed that they conducted searches at several locations last night and detained several people.

“Among those detained are two people who are directly connected to the aggravated murder of a police officer,” said RS Interior Ministry spokeswoman Mirna Miljanovic.
