A shopping boycott in supermarkets has also been launched in North Macedonia.

The one-day boycott is planned for tomorrow, January 31st, and as the initiators of the action emphasize on social media, “a major boycott of large supermarkets should be a reaction to the drastic price increases.”

They are calling on citizens to refrain from shopping and using services at markets as well, in order to send a clear message to those responsible for the difficult economic situation, North Macedonian media report.

“Refrain from shopping in large supermarkets, avoid smaller markets,” and “we want to send the message that citizens will not tolerate these unrealistic price hikes” are just some of the calls to action on social media.

A shopping boycott is also planned for tomorrow in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and again in Croatia due to prices.

In certain shopping centers and supermarkets, a boycott is currently underway in Slovenia and will last until February 2nd, after which citizens are called to continue boycotting other retail chains from February 3rd to February 9th.

The multi-day shopping boycott in Slovenia and the announcements in BiH and North Macedonia followed after last Friday’s successful citizen action in Croatia.

In just one day of abstaining from shopping, the number of issued receipts in Croatia decreased by as much as 53 percent.
