Sarajevo International Airport presented a web application designed to improve the transport of people with reduced mobility, the visually impaired, the deaf and hard of hearing, and people with cognitive disabilities, which it developed as part of the “DANOVA: Smart Transport Network for Accessibility for Passengers with Disabilities and Reducing Mobility in the Danube Region through Innovative Services” Project.

Sarajevo Airport’s Danova Next team member Belma Ćureković explains that this is a transnational project related to the Danube Region, and their goal is to improve the accessibility of transport for people with disabilities, with a focus on deaf and hard of hearing people.

She emphasized that they have already implemented the same project, targeted at blind and visually impaired people.

Ćureković emphasizes that this application is one of a series of procedures within the Project, and it contains relevant information that can be accessed by visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing people, and people with cognitive disabilities when planning a trip from Sarajevo Airport.

He says that Sarajevo Airport is in the process of purchasing wheelchairs for the needs of people with disabilities, and they are also working on positioning passport control points, which will enable faster passenger flow.

The main part of digitalization is the purchase of software for records, which will help to have data on passengers with reduced mobility who use the services of Sarajevo International Airport in one place.

Medina Ćuprija from the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton assessed that the project, implemented by Sarajevo International Airport, is an important step forward towards a more inclusive society for people with disabilities (the visually impaired, the deaf and hard of hearing, and people with cognitive disabilities).

The Secretary of the Federation of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Associations of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sulejman Čaković, expressed his gratitude for the project, which, he emphasized, means a lot to deaf and hard of hearing people.

Danova Next aims to improve accessibility of transport in the Danube region for all people with disabilities through innovation and the establishment of a smart network between airports, ports and local public transport. Sarajevo International Airport is part of this transnational cooperation project co-financed by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), IPA (Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance) and ENI (European Neighbourhood Instrument).
