Since 1950s, Mountaineers are climbing Trebevic Mountain on January 1st

“The Sarajevo Mountain Guides Station” on the first day of 2019 organized the traditional New Year’s climbing on the highest peak of Trebevic Mountain, the Sofa Top (1629 m.), where mountaineers from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) participated.

Mountaineers from Brcko, Gracanica, Konjic, Jablanica, Sokolac, Zenica, Kakanj, Visoko, Lukavica and many other Sarajevo mountaineering clubs joined their forces and attained the aim.

The hikers climbed from Ravne – Dobra Voda – the top of the Sofa, and with clear weather and winter conditions, they needed some 3.5 hours to reach the peak.

Clear weather and the winter idyll at the very top gave many opportunities to see one of the most beautiful Bosnian mountains Romanija, Jahorina, Bjelasnica and Igman.

At the same time, they remembered the beautiful days when these mountains were in the interest of the whole world when the 14th Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo in 1984.

By this climb, the beginning of the hiking season in Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked.

For the first time, climbing was organized by the Sarajevo Mountains Association on January 1, 1950, and was only interrupted in the period from 1993 to 1996 due to the war in BiH and immediately continued in January 1, 1997, Federal News Agency reports.
