europaBA_2014091516223854_bigHead of Delegation/EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, met Mr. Thomas Lubeck,  newly appointed Manager for Western Balkan countries at the International Finance Corporation on Monday 15 September, 2014 in Sarajevo. They exchanged  views on the economic  situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador Sorensen said that the Compact for Growth and Jobs, recently presented to the BiH public, provides a road map for implementation of serious economic reforms needed in the country. “The six priority reform measures should be implemented by the governments that emerge from the October 2014 general elections. They have been endorsed by the International Financial Institutions and the European Union, which are fully committed to help with their implementation and to provide financial assistance to alleviate their short-term effects. Reforms do work and  they give rewards. The cost of not reforming is that young people will have no future in their own country,” Ambassador Sorensen concluded.

Ambassador Sorensen also commended  the local IFC team’s efforts in helping develop the measures in the Compact to improve the business climate and strengthen enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
