Startup Weekend Sarajevo began on Friday and hosted Martin Omander at the opening, the program manager of Goggle who came to BiH from California.
This unique event is an opportunity for young people who wish to launch their own businesses to develop their business ideas and take part in Startup Weekend.
For the next two weeks, participants at Startup Weekend will have the opportunity to speak with Omander on their business ideas, and in addition to mentoring management he held a Google CodeLab workshop for back-end developers in Sarajevo on Thursday.
Startup Weekend is attended by 12 mentors, and the program started in the late afternoon yesterday. Among the first speakers was Edin Mehić, the founder of posao.ba, as well as Omander. They spoke of the importance of motivation in starting companies, as well as perseverance.
Organizer of the project Selma Šehić told klix.ba that they had 28 ideas that were presented, and that participants had one minute each to explain their project ideas. Of the 28 ideas, around 90 percent were based on IT, and most were focused on mobile applications. After that, she said that they chose the top nine ideas on which they will work on in the next 54 hours. Teams were divided and the work has already started, explained Selma Šehić.
During the next two days they will work on developing prototypes, websites and the marketing of their ideas. Participants will also speak with the citizens of Sarajevo on the street in order to ask for their opinions on their ideas, and whether they would buy their products and how much they would pay for them.
‘’On Sunday at 17:00, we will have presentations, where a small demo or website will be presented to the jury. After that, the three best ideas will be presented, and then awards will be handed out’’, said Šehić.
Today, all participants will have the chance to speak to Omander in detail about their ideas, where he will give suggestions.
