Students from Sarajevo achieved notable success at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) held from April 27 to May 2, 2024 in Varna, Bulgaria and placed fourth, behind Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria.

The team from Bosnia and Herzegovina, winning fourth place, repeated its best ranking from 2017.

Harun Alibegović (Richmond Park Secondary School Sarajevo) won the silver medal, Ahmed Spahić and Benjamin Mujkić (JU Druga Gimnazija Sarajevo) won the bronze medal, while Abdullah Fehratbegović (Richmond Park Secondary School) won a special award.

Chairman of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Elvedin Okerić, Minister of Education Naida Hota-Muminović and Director of the Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education Senada Salihović today hosted the successful mathematicians, their leader Zenan Šabanac and Professor Senada Kalabušić.

In addition to their successes, they also discussed the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in 2025, which will be hosted by Sarajevo, and which will be fully supported by the Sarajevo Canton Government, and will be co-organizer with the KS Mathematicians Association.

Minister Hota-Muminović thanked the KS Mathematicians Association for their dedicated and dedicated work and emphasized her satisfaction with the results achieved.

“Our great mathematicians made us happy again with their outstanding results. From Bulgaria, they brought silver, two bronzes and a commendation from the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad to Sarajevo, which makes us extremely proud. These students, their leaders, teachers and parents set an example that they are committed to results and dedicated work is a proven formula for success. As before, we will continue to support our students in the development and improvement of their competencies, and that is why we are especially looking forward to the upcoming Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in 2025, which we will be hosting,” said Minister Hota-Muminović, Klix.ba reports.
