Eid happiness came in the home of Syrian family Abdullah, in the capital city of BiH.
Although far away from their homeland, relatives and friends, a married couple Abdullah, together with their five children, is happy to celebrate Eid away from the horrors of war and destruction.
Adil Abdullah (55) studied in Sarajevo in 1980’s, and he escaped from Syrian city Deyruz Zor together with his family, and found refuge six months ago again in Sarajevo.
“I had a private practice in Deyruz Zor. I had my own house. I had a nice life. Now it is all destroyed, there is no more life there,” said Abdullah, who says for himself that he is the man who felt the war disaster twice.
He added that there were other options to go to another countries while leaving Syria, but he emphasized that he has always been closely tied to Sarajevo, which is why he returned here.
“This is one great love. I couldn’t live without Sarajevo even when I was living in Syria. I used to come every few months, visit my friends and carsija and return to Syria. Sarajevo is my second, not to say the first homeland. I’ve grown up here, I know the language and tradition, and I was not willing to learn a new mentality. I went back to Sarajevo. My children are going to school, they fit very well and have more friends in Sarajevo than I do,” said Abdullah.
“BiH is a consolation for us. People here are very good, they are our brothers. Some people might say that I am exaggerating, but we like it here. We miss our brothers, sisters and relatives. But this what the war is, I have experienced it twice. Many people from BiH experienced the same as we did, and remained far from their relatives because of the war,” said Abdullah.
In the end he said that he hopes that one day peace will come to his country, and added: – “There is always rain after the clouds. When I was in Sarajevo during the war, I thought that it will never be peace, but fortunately everything calmed down. There should not be so much hatred, I teach my children that. They must not hate nor seek for revenge, but also they must not forget.”
Married couple Abdullah arrived to Sarajevo with four children, where they got their fifth child, son Muhamed.
