Hungarian energy company MOL increased its oil exports to Serbia after Croatian JANAF suspended oil deliveries to the Serbian company NIS, which is under United States (U.S.) sanctions, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto said at the “Russian Energy Week” forum.
Szijjarto stated that MOL operates on behalf of NIS, but that it cannot independently cover all the needs of the Serbian fuel market, media in the region reported.
“MOL cannot independently secure the entire amount of fuel needed for the functioning of the Serbian fuel market. However, the company is doing everything possible. They have increased exports and will continue to do so to help Serbia,” said Szijjarto.
The Serbian company NIS, which is under U.S. sanctions due to Russian ownership, earlier this week announced that it had taken all necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted supply and continued fuel sales to customers. The company is cooperating with partners, the Government of Serbia, and shareholders to overcome the current challenges.
NIS also announced that it continues to cooperate with the U.S. Department of the Treasury on the request to be removed from the list of sanctioned entities (SDN list), emphasizing that it is a long and complex process.
Croatian JANAF had earlier notified that it was suspending oil deliveries to NIS, while Croatian authorities expressed their readiness to buy out the Russian share in that company.
