A group of researchers from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo created a simulation of jumps from the Old Bridge in Mostar by the technique of Virtual Reality (VR) in collaboration with their colleagues from the United Kingdom.

Selma Rizvic, the manager of this project, stated that it is currently available on their website and it is currently only adapted to HMD displays.

“We are planning to make a desktop application for people with classic computers soon, in order for them to experience jump without any additional help,” noted Selma Rizvic, the Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo.

Elmedin Selmanovic, the professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Sarajevo, noted that this project combines two current topics, virtual reality and cultural heritage.

They also stated that besides the simulation itself, the project also has an educational part that includes jumps recorded in 360 degrees at the Old Bridge, in order for their users to experience the real atmosphere that follows the jumps.

Student Malik Sahin, who developed the simulation, stated that he tried to make as realistic view of the jump from the Old Bridge as possible and that reactions of all the current users were great.

Asim Krhan, the director of the Museum of Herzegovina in Mostar, stated that story like this contributes to cultural tourism, and that the equipment will be installed in their Museum of Old Bridge and the Interpretation Center very soon.
