After landing on the Sarajevo International Airport, Danis Tanović revealed details and finesses of the award ceremony at this year’s Berlinale Film Festival.
“I secretly hoped to win the award, but I did not know until the last moment that the statue will be in my hands. A little before the winner was announced I was told not to leave the premises and that perhaps precisely I will be the one to win that award, and it turned out that way,” Tanović said to the gathered citizens and press at the Sarajevo Airport.
Many festival participants are delighted with his film, including the US actress Meryl Streep. She told Tanović that she would like to play in one of his next films and, in a joke, mentioned that she will move to Sarajevo if Donald Trump wins the presidential elections in the USA.
Tanović said that the Minister of Culture of FBiH Zora Dujmović does not stand out in public at all, that she only visits the BiH mountains and does not invest efforts in the BiH culture.
“I would like HDZ and SDA to agree and say that they do not care about culture, so that we all know where we stand and to make a move, instead of this situation,” Tanović concluded.
As a reminder, the BiH Academy Award winner won the Silver Bear at the 66th Berlinale Film Festival – the special jury’s award for his latest work “Death in Sarajevo”.
