Technical Assistance to Civil Society Organizations (TACSO) Project Started in BH

BiH I EU - ZAJEDNO ZA BOLJE SUTRATechnical Assistance to Civil Society Organizations (TACSO) Project started the partnership with VESTA Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to ensure sustainability of TACSO functions after the project ends in 2017.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, VESTA was identified as partner for TACSO; with its 16 years of experience in civil society development and with the background VESTA has it is expected that it will facilitate the functions of TACSO in the years to come.

Partnership established between TACSO and VESTA with identification of VESTA as TACSO Resource Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina, brings technical assistance to CSOs in this country to new level and made long-lasting cooperation official. VESTA will host TACSO in their offices in Sarajevo and Tuzla as of October 2014. VESTA will be cooperating closely for implementation of TACSO project in order to ensure sustainability of TACSO functions after the project compilation.

The partnership in Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of the process that is being done in Albania, Kosovo, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey. TACSO’s efforts were concentrated on identifying partners with similar missions and approaches for supporting the civil society, in these countries, who will ensure sustainability of its functions to support civil society in each IPA country in Western Balkans and Turkey.

The process of review for potential partners was carried out at regional level in consultation with European Commission. The output of this process is identification of the most suitable candidate that will take part in partnership with TACSO and will be called “Resource Center supported by TACSO” (TACSO RCs).

Partnerships between Resource Centers and TACSO Project in every country is designed to enable improvement of RCs capacity to takeover TACSO functions which are briefly TACSO’s capacity building activities, support and assistance, the aim is to achieve a strengthened civil society and to stimulate a civil society-friendly environment and culture.

In practice, Resource Centers will accompany TACSO National Offices in implementation of the project until the project end; receive capacity building support for organisational development and tailored coaching for improving the extent of their services for CSOs.

The EU has supported the Technical Assistance to Civil Society Organizations (TACSO) Project since 2009 in the scope of the Civil Society Facility (CSF) mechanism, in order to achieve a strengthened civil society and to stimulate a civil society-friendly environment and culture in the Western Balkans and Turkey.

TACSO operates through one regional office and national offices in seven countries with around 22 professionals, bringing CSOs from the Western Balkans and Turkey closer to each other and to the EU, by organizing activities at the regional level. Via national offices, TACSO also responds to the specific needs of civil society organizations by providing technical assistance, capacity building support and facilitation of dialogue among the key stakeholders of civil society.
