The team of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (CCUS) independently performed the TEVAR procedure for the first time ever.
This is a procedure related to the reconstruction of the thoracic aorta, and the head of the team was Prof. Dr. Haris Vranic and he was assisted by Dr. Amel Hadzimehmedagic.
“Without any false modesty, we can say that we are in the rank with large world centers with this procedure. A patient came to CCUS with acute syndrome, and after being diagnosed in the CUM, we established that he has a dissection of the aorta that blocked the circulation of his left leg, which is why the patient was in a lot of pain. Therefore, we had to performe the procedure as soon as possible. After the diagnosis and performed procedures, the patient had a successful surgery two days ago and we are planning to discharge him tomorrow,” said Prof. Vranic.
In comparison to the classic surgical procedure, which has been done before, TEVAR is a much better procedure in case of the reconstruction of aorta and there are fewer complications.
Head of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery, Dr. Nermir Granov, said that the clinic has a team of experts who are able to perform all types of surgeries on the cardiovascular system.
The patient, Recko Muratovic, who went through the TEVAR procedure, said that he feels very well and he is very satisfied with the service.
“I can only praise the team of doctors and nurses here. I am happy that we have such a great service available in our country,” stated Muratovic.
