After the attack of the Russian army on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, no increased level of radiation was registered and the situation is regular, the Nuclear Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) confirmed.
Action plan
According to the Deputy Director of the Agency, Zoran Tesanovic, this information was also confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
”From the very beginning of the war in Ukraine, given that there are four nuclear power plants and 15 reactors in that country, as well as facilities for storing nuclear fuel, the State Agency has increased its attention. Today, the director formed a team to monitor and coordinate all events in accordance with our state action plan for the protection of the population from ionizing radiation in the event of an emergency, nuclear accident, and nuclear damage, ” Tesanovic told yesterday.
Due to the incident in Zaporozhye, the director of the IAEAannounced his departure to Ukraine.
Data from about 3.500 stations
In the period of the global nuclear threat and the war near nuclear facilities, data from about 3.500 stations at the same number of locations in the region are being monitored, including a dozen in BiH.
”It is very important that the monitoring system in Ukraine is also in function and that was confirmed to us today, ” addedTesanovic yesterday.
”As a state regulatory body, we can support institutions in making decisions, of course in coordination with the surrounding countries, the IAEA in Vienna and EURODEP in Brussels,” Tesanovic pointed out.
