The Candidacy of Igor Stojanovic for the (vice) President was confirmed

The candidacy of Igor Stojanović (Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina) for president/vice president of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina from among the Serb people has been confirmed with a unanimous decision to certify that candidacy at today’s session of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Last month, the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament, of which Stojanović is a member in the delegate club of the Serb people, submitted to the CEC a form for certification of the candidacy of Zlatan Begić (Democratic Front) for President/Vice-President of the Federation of BiH from the list of the Others, but that decision was not confirmed at today’s CEC session.

The CEC President Suad Arnautović, as his reason for the CEC’s refusal to certify Begić’s candidacy, stated that the constitutional and provisions of the BiH Election Law allow passive voting rights for the president/vice president of FBiH only to representatives of the corresponding constituent people.

Although the verdict of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina resolved this issue in the meantime, unfortunately, it has not yet been implemented, so systemic discrimination against voters in both entities, who do not declare themselves as members of the constituent peoples, continues, until the entity constitutions and the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina resolve it otherwise, Arnautović said before the vote on Begić’s candidacy.

With today’s confirmation of Stojanović’s candidacy, the names of three candidates for the new convocation of the executive leadership of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (president and two vice presidents) have been confirmed.
