The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Bosnia and Herzegovina today opened the Book of Mourning on the occasion of the death of Qatar’s Father Emir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, who died on July 12, 2026 at the age of 74.

The Book of Mourning was opened in the residential complex of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sarajevo today, July 13, and entries in the Book of Mourning can also be made on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

On the first day, ambassadors and diplomats accredited in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as current and former officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina, signed the Book of Mourning.

On this occasion, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sarajevo sends expressions of respect to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the same time, the Embassy expresses its sincere gratitude for the numerous messages of condolence and expressions of solidarity and support that it received in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of the death of the Father of the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the father of the current sovereign of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani

The head of the Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein-ef. Kavazović led the funeral prayer in the absence of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani in the Gazi Husrev Bey Mosque in Sarajevo. The funeral was held in the presence of numerous officials and believers.

“With the death of the Emir the Father, the world has lost a great leader, and Muslims have lost an experienced and wise leader. He left Qatar in safe hands, but also a better world. If he could not prevent all evil, he left behind a state in the world that mediates and advocates peace wherever it can, serves humanity and what is true and just,” said Muhamed Jusić, Director of the Directorate for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani is considered the architect of Qatar’s modern transformation.

His death marks the departure of one of the most influential leaders in the Middle East, whose eighteen-year rule transformed Qatar into a global diplomatic, economic, and media power.
