The member of the European Union Commission in charge of the internal market, Thierry Breton, said that at least 1.3 million artillery shells are planned to be produced and delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year to strengthen ammunition stocks in Ukraine, which is fighting Russia.
During a visit to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, Breton met with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and spoke to reporters about the EU’s support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Emphasizing that Europe will continue to support Ukraine with all its means, Breton noted that they plan to achieve the goal of producing at least 1.3 million artillery shells by the end of the year and deliver them to Ukraine.
Although Breton did not provide information on current production, he said that production capacity will increase “significantly” next year and that Ukraine will be a priority in distribution.
Kallas also referred to allegations that North Korea sent artillery shells to Russia and called on European countries to meet Ukraine’s expectations.
“If North Korea can do it, Europe can definitely do it. Ukraine is counting on us, we shouldn’t let them down,” Kallas said.
During a visit to a naval base in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, in his country’s La Manche province, French President Emmanuel Macron called for increased production and innovation to meet Ukraine’s growing demand for ammunition.
Macron stated that the needs of Ukraine should be answered quickly and said:
“We cannot allow Russia to think it can win. A Russian victory would mean the end of European security.”, AA writes.
