The European Union strengthens the Work of the BiH Service for Foreigner Affairs

The European Union has donated 170 sets of specialized tactical uniforms to the Service for Foreigner Affairs to BiH, worth 354,000 BAM. These sets of specialized tactical uniforms, which include jackets, pants, shirts, t-shirts, caps, boots, and shoes, will significantly enhance the work of the officers of this institution.

This donation is part of the broader EU support to strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina’s border and migration management capacities through the project “Individual Measure to Strengthen Capacity for Border Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina”. To date, the EU has provided more than 8 million BAM in assistance through this project.

On behalf of the Delegation of the EU to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the equipment was handed over by Head of Section for Justice and Home Affairs, Migration and Public Administration Reform Karel Lizerot, and received by director of the Service for Foreigner Affairs, Žarko Laketa.

„I am pleased that we could support the procurement of brand new uniforms to improve efficiency and professionalism of the officers as they perform their duties. This donation today is a small but important step in our broader efforts to equip and modernize agencies like the Service for Foreigner Affairs. The EU remains the most trusty partner in strengthening the capacity of institutions responsible for border and migration management in Bosnia and Herzegovina“, said Lizerot.

„I would like to emphasize that our last uniform procurement procedure was nearly five years ago, and since taking on the role of Director of the Service a year and a half ago, I am pleased to report that we have successfully completed this important procurement project. Not only that, but we were also fortunate enough to receive a generous vehicle donation from the European Union, further enhancing the work of our inspectors and improving our mobility in the field. This moment serves as a testament to our productive collaboration with our EU partners“, stated Žarko Laketa, Director of the Service for Affairs with Foreigners.

The EU support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in this sector goes beyond equipment donations. It also includes capacity building, expert assistance and broader institutional support to agencies operating within the Ministry of Security, the Service for Foreigner Affairs, the Border Police, the Asylum Sector, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, and other institutions and agencies responsible for this sector.

Last week, the EU donated IT equipment worth 339,000 BAM to the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) further improving their capacities.

The EU provides considerable financial support and continues to play an important role in strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Security, the Service for Foreigner Affairs and other institutions responsible for ensuring security and managing migration effectively in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
