The long-standing story of a Sarajevo Citizen Ivo Riter, the last tenant of a former Austro-Hungarian villa that has been collapsing for years and is a danger to the life of the Riter family, has received its epilogue.
Namely, Ivo Riter and his wife are holders of occupancy rights and users of a residential unit owned by the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo at 9 Trnovska Street. The problems in this residential building, which dates back to the Austro-Hungarian era, arose after the war, and the building was never repaired.
The municipal service for communal and housing affairs and traffic has been trying to solve the Riter family’s housing problem for many years, making efforts to relocate them and place them in one of the conditional housing units owned by the Municipality. Ivo Riter refused all the options offered at the time.
In 2019, the Riter family was banned from using the devastated residential building by the Decision of the Service for Inspection Affairs of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, because even then, according to expert opinion, the building was dangerous for use.
There was a collapse of the entire ceiling in part of the building, collapse of the roof structure, ceiling, and floor structures in the part of the building from the roof to the ground floor.
Ivo Riter and his wife accepted the offer to temporarily use a renovated municipal apartment of 55 square meters at 28 Grbavicka Street, Klix.ba reports.
