In the local community of Vučilovac in the western part of Brčko District, the first cases of African swine fever infection in this area appeared, confirmed Stevan Radić, head of the Veterinary Sub-Department of the Government of Brčko District.
“We monitor the situation on the ground all the time, and we took suspicious samples that we sent to the Veterinary Institute of the Republika Srpska, dr. Vaso Butozan. Today we received confirmation for eight sent samples, seven blood samples and one organ, related to infection with this disease in four individual agricultural households,” said Dr. Radic.
According to him, infected animals, which have been confirmed to be infected, and all animals on farms where the disease has been identified, will be harmlessly removed, that is, euthanized, and then disinfection, disinsection and pest control measures will be carried out on said farms.
Radić emphasizes that in the coming period, the measures in this matter will be further strengthened.
“We have already taken measures, our teams are on the ground, but in the coming period, in cooperation with the Inspectorate and other services of the Brčko District of BiH, we will take measures in accordance with the regulations and rules related to the eradication of this infectious disease. In this area, we are declaring an infectious area, which is three kilometers as a rule, and seven kilometers are threatened, and measures are being implemented there according to regulations, as foreseen,” said Radić.
The Department of Veterinary Medicine warns once again that African swine fever is highly infectious and that individual pig producers must adhere to the measures proposed by the competent institutions.
For any information on this issue, they point out, citizens can contact the veterinary staff at the Veterinary Department, 24 hours a day.
