The Center for Children and Youth with Special Needs “Los Rosales” from Mostar organized on Friday evening “Night to Shine”, the first event of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which aims to provide people with disabilities over the age of 18 with a sense of the charms of prom night.
“Night to Shine” is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation and in cooperation with the American organization “Back2Back”.
“This is the first event of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a prom night for people with disabilities, where they are given the opportunity to experience the feeling of a prom night, just like other children. This is a special event for them,” said Marcie Beckwith, who is here tonight in front of the organization “Back2Back” and the Tim Tebow Foundation.
“Night to Shine” is an event that is organized in almost 50 countries around the world, and tonight Bosnia and Herzegovina joined it for the first time.
“The Tim Tebow Foundation, like many others, are the organizers of this event, and the goal is to give people with disabilities the opportunity to be queens and kings of the prom night. It was not difficult at all to organize this event with the partners from “Los Rosales”, they are incredible, they have done various miracles in the organization, and we are glad to be here and to support them,” said Beckwith.
Director of “Los Rosales”, Mirna Mezit, pointed out that they are very proud of the organization of tonight’s event.
“Night to Shine” is a prom night for our young people with disabilities over the age of 18, and we are very proud that this kind of event is organized in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 50 young people with disabilities from the area of Mostar are with us tonight. With us tonight are the association “Vedri osmijeh”, the association “Sunce”, the association “Naša djeca”, the children’s home “Children without parental care”. We hope that this will be a tradition and that we will continue to make life better for our users,” said Mezit.
She revealed that there was great excitement among tonight’s participants when they heard that they would be part of this event.
“Believe me, it was such a happy mood. We even told the parents to tell them only the day before, even though we had to start the organization much earlier. It cannot be hidden, they are very excited,” said Mezit.
At the end, she thanked the students of the Secondary Polytechnic School Mostar, who volunteered to “dress up” tonight’s graduates and put on their make-up.
The event started with the arrival in a limousine, a walk on the red carpet with a big ovation from the gathered employees, parents and volunteers, and continued with dancing and entertainment.
