NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke in his regular address at the end of the year where he talked about the challenges facing the North Atlantic Alliance.
In a year-end speech published on Platform X, Stoltenberg said that we live in a dangerous world and that NATO works to maintain peace.
“We live in a more dangerous world. We have a real war in Europe and a new war in the Middle East. Tensions in the Western Balkans are increasing. There is no security without strong protection. And there is no strong defense without capable armies,” he said in the introduction of the speech.
He said that peace in Kosovo is the key to the stability of the region.
“Helping to maintain a peaceful and safe environment for everyone in Kosovo is crucial for the stability of the wider Western Balkan region,” added Stoltenberg.
The head of NATO thanked all the troops of the alliance who are making efforts to preserve peace in different parts of the world, saying that they have increased their readiness “not to provoke war, but to prevent conflicts”.
“At this time of year, my deepest thanks and respect goes to our NATO forces. Without you there would be no NATO, security and freedom. Their service keeps us risk-free, safe and free. Happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year,” Stoltenberg said at the end.
