The Number of Users of soup Kitchens and socially disadvantaged Citizens has increased

The regional committee of Merhamet Bihac, within the framework of numerous humanitarian activities, has been organizing the preparation and distribution of daily meals in the Soup Kitchen “Imaret” based in Midzica Mahala for fifteen years. Every day, in that kitchen and another operating in the Cazin area, they distribute 270 meals to people in a state of social need.

Apart from soup kitchens, one of the main activities of the regional committee Merhamet Bihac is the distribution of food packages to people who are in a state of social assistance and who live in rural areas and are unable to come to a soup kitchen for food.

”We have an increased number of requests for humanitarian aid in the form of food packages, which are getting smaller due to the rise in prices of basic foodstuffs. Inflation caused a decrease in the inflow of donations in humanitarian organizations, which also affected the work of soup kitchens. An additional aggravating circumstance is the fact that energy prices have also increased, which has made the daily work of humanitarian organizations much more difficult,” noted Alen Prosic, director of the regional committee of Merhamet Bihac.

A few days ago, Merhamet of Sweden paid 82.000 BAM for the needs of soup kitchens in both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), which will be evenly distributed and according to Prosic, this will greatly facilitate the work of soup kitchens.

”Merhamet BiH launched the National Bakery project in Gorazde a few days ago, which will be implemented in Bihac in due course. In addition to the above mentioned, we also provide scholarships to students whose parents are unable to finance their children’s education,” told Prosic.

Their logistic support in everything is Merhamet BiH based in Sarajevo and without that, they say, it would be very difficult to function. These days, they received very significant help from headquarters. It was a ton of foodstuffs necessary for the operation of soup kitchens.

”Merhamet BiH has its property in Zavidovici where various foodstuffs are produced. This means a lot to us in terms of reducing soup kitchen costs. Therefore, with the cooperation with our headquarters in Sarajevo, we manage to collect enough funds for operation and respond to all the demands of socially vulnerable categories of the population,” pointed out Prosic.
