The beginning of research in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, more precisely in the Una-Sana Canton, on the impacts of the possible disposal of nuclear waste on Trgovska Gora in Croatia, was made official in Bihać.
In this regard, the Minister of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of BiH, Nasiha Pozder, held meetings in the Government of that Canton with the Prime Minister of the Canton, Mustafa Ružnić, and the Cantonal Minister of Construction, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection, Senad Dizdarić, and after that, a meeting was held in Bosanska Krupa with Mayor Armin Halitović.
Since these are activities that both entities are working on, the expert and legal team at the BiH level, together with Minister Pozder, Borislav Bojić, advisor to State Minister Staša Košarac, and state parliamentarian and member of the Green Club Jasmin Emrić were also present.
The meeting was attended by directors and representatives of federal institutions: Hydrometeorological Institute (FHMZ), Agropedological Institute, Institute of Public Health FBiH, Institute of Geology, as well as institutes and institutes in the Republika Srpska, and representatives of the non-governmental sector.
After the meeting, employees of the Agency for the Sava River Water Area took a sample for analysis of physico-chemical, chemical and biological parameters of water quality, FHMZ measured the bed profile and water flow, while the Agropedological Institute took soil samples for further testing.
According to Minister Pozder, the goal is to send a common message that everyone is in this business together with one goal, to prevent waste disposal and protect the population.
These samplings made official the research that represents the continuation of activities on the issue of disposal of radioactive waste, which Croatia plans to dispose of on Trgovska Gora.
The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism reminds that planned research in the territory of the Federation of BiH is divided into two groups of work. The first group of jobs includes: geological, geophysical, hydrogeological, seismotectonic and seismological research as well as exploratory drilling. The second group of tasks includes the creation of a zero state of radioactivity in the environment with Bosnia and Herzegovina. side near the location where Croatia intends to build the Čerkezovac Radioactive Waste Management Center.
The activities that will be undertaken as part of the aforementioned research in the wider area of Trgovska Gora will also be used for future climate change risk assessments and for the analysis of flood waves. Work will also be done on further investigation of the seismological characteristics of this area. It is important to note that representatives of the academic community, universities and institutes are also involved in the activities, and that in this way the involved institutions are strengthened and capacitated, which are of great importance in the processes of collecting and analyzing scientifically based data and their use. Also, from the very beginning, non-governmental organizations and environmental activists have been contributing, which speaks in favor of the fact that there is a general consensus on Trgovska Gora in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism announced.
The minister’s meeting with the cantonal prime minister, relevant cantonal minister and mayor was also used to sign the “Partnership for Una” initiative, by which the institutions committed themselves to creating a network of info centers, as well as forming a knowledge exchange platform for access to scientific facts and evidence and work on promotion and dissemination of data and information and their presentation at domestic and international forums and conferences.
