The results of the expert examination of samples of mineral water from the Austrian manufacturer Romerquelle have been published, and this is a sample taken in Rijeka. The expert opinion was done after some Croatian citizens had health problems after consuming this water.

The expert examination was carried out by the Center for Forensic Examinations and Expert Examinations “Ivan Vučetić”, and the samples were delivered to this Center based on the order of the Municipal State Attorney’s Office in Rijeka.

As announced by the police, the results of the expert examination of the liquid from the glass consumed by the person who had health problems match in physical and chemical properties with the liquid from the bottle of flavored soft drink that was served to him, while the analysis established that it was highly alkaline aqueous solutions (pH=13.6). Then it was explained what was specifically found in the sample that was examined.

“On the basis of the established chemical composition, it can be concluded that it is a detergent and/or degreaser. In addition, 20 undisputed glass bottles of the same drink, received in their original packaging, were found to contain transparent liquids with a pH of 3.5, which corresponds to the pH values of these types of drinks,” they reasoned.

In relation to the first reported case of health problems after consumption of the mentioned water, which was reported to the Zagreb police on November 7, the expert examination of the liquid from the plastic bottle was completed and it was determined that the liquid from the bottle has a pH of 2.59, which is also common for this type of drink and no compounds were detected in the liquid that would be unusual for this type of drink, reports Index.

Due to doubts about the correctness of Romerquelle water and one batch of Coca-Cola, it has been withdrawn from sale in Croatia. Romerquelle is an Austrian brand owned by Coca-Cola.
