The Tram Stop near the City Hall returned

stanicaAfter more than 20 years, the tram stop at the City Hall has been returned to its previous place, which was, due to public safety, relocated near the new bridge just beneath the City Hall.

As we all know, this tram stop was moved for the pedestrian’s and traffic’s safety, because the City Hall, which was destroyed during the last war, got fenced and, therefore, the passage for the pedestrians was disabled.

“The citizens of the local community “Babica basca” and all who live in the vicinity, are now able to go to work faster and safer as well as the children to school. They will no longer have to cross the busy road next to the new bridge beneath the City Hall, where the tram stop was relocated for more than 20 years. From now on, they can safely enter the tram from the “Seher-cehajin” bridge”, says Aljic. He added that the return of the tram station was especially important for the elderly population, the disabled and the children.

The City Hall is the most beautiful object from the Austro-Hungarian period.

It is located in Sarajevo, close to Bascarsija on the Mustaj – Pasha Mejdan and represents the most beautiful and the most representative building from the Austro-Hungarian period, built in pseudo- moorish style. Most of the facilities, which were left in Sarajevo by the Austro-Hungarian rule, were made in this style. It is a synonym for the Austro-Hungarian period in B&H and a trademark of that time.

After the World War II, the City Hall housed the National and the University Library.
