The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer, stated that the country will recognize the state of Palestine in September if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire and does not move toward peace.
Starmer urgently convened a meeting with his ministers yesterday to discuss a plan for lasting peace in Gaza, which could lead to the recognition of Palestine.
On Saturday, Starmer spoke about Gaza with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and two days ago, during a meeting in Scotland, he conveyed to the United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump the plans he is developing together with European officials for establishing lasting peace in that territory.
The announcement of recognizing Palestinian statehood was previously made by Macron, while Germany stated that it still does not have such a plan.
