The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has informed BiH citizens that it is suspending regular activities after Republicans and Democrats failed to reach an agreement on public finances for the upcoming period, which led to the suspension of the functioning of the US federal government.
Issuing passports and visas in the United States, as well as in US embassies and consulates abroad, will continue during the suspension to the extent that circumstances allow, the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
The work of US government institutions has been blocked for the first time in seven years, after Republicans and Democrats in the US Senate failed to agree on a new budget.
The deadline for adopting a budget to finance the government expired today, and both parties rejected the proposed spending plans, the statement said.
Republicans and Democrats blame each other for the crisis, and the Republican Party has accused members of the Democratic Party of wanting to deal with US President Donald Trump by blocking the financing and work of the government.
