‘The Wall’ at Sarajevo War Theatre

Plakat_ZidAfter the premiere on 30 November last year and then the performances held in December, the public will have the chance to watch the play ‘The Wall’ again on 14 and 15 January at the Sarajevo War Theatre. Zulfikar Filandra, third-year student at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, directs this play.

‘The Wall’ is an adaptation of the eponymous short story by French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, and is part of Zulfikar’s exam for the second year of directing in the class of Professor Pjer Žalica.

‘The Wall’ was performed in 1993 at Kamerni Theatre 55, directed by Dino Mustafić, and now 20 years later, by young and talented director Zulfikar Filandra.

At a time when mankind believes that fascism was something that took place a long time ago and that fascists are ‘somewhere out there’, and that dying for one’s ideals is not possible (because ideals do not exist), it is very challenging to deal with Sartre’s story from 1939, and the conclusion is that until today the only advancement made is the technique of killing opponents. The end is always the same-death.
