sedamThe Sarajevo Open Center, in cooperation with Civil Rights Defenders, Hedda Production AB and the Embassy of Sweden, will organize a theatrical reading of the revolutionary documentary drama ‘Sedam’, which will be held in Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka from 5-7 November as part of a tour in countries of the Western Balkans.

‘Sedam’ is a revolutionary documentary drama that is based on interviews with seven women’s rights activists from around the world, and whose difficult life stories and struggles is an amazing source of inspiration.

The activists are Ferida Azizi (Afghanistan), Inez Mccormack (Northern Ireland), Marina Pisklakova-Parker (Russia), Annabella de Leon (Guatemala), Mukhtar Mai (Pakistan), Mu Sochua (Cambodia) and Hafsat Abiola (Nigeria).

A unique ensemble consisting of eminent personalities form various areas of activity will perform each reading.

In B&H, seven female politicians, artists, entrepreneurs and journalists will be on stage, which will embody activists from this documentary drama. Their names will be announced later.

‘’Violence against women is a serious and controversial issue in many countries, including B&H. Currently, with the reading of the play ‘Sedam’ we wish to contribute to the debate on gender-based violence, as well as to encourage those that have not been opposed to gender-based violence, to do so’’, said the Director of the Sarajevo Open Center Saša Gavrić.

The tour readings of ‘Sedam’ was initiated and produced by the award-winning playwright, actress and producer Hedda Krausz Sjögren in Sweden in 2008.

Until now, the drama has been performed in 13 countries, and gathered around 20 thousand people from Sweden to Afghanistan.

More than 500 people, men and women, including several ministers, members of the European Parliament, artists, as well as multiple award-winner of the American Oscar Meryl Streep, performed this dramatic piece.

In addition to stage dramatic readings, the project ‘Sedam’ will include follow-up activities that will focus on the fight against violence on women and the fight to protect women’s rights.
