Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johan Sattler, during the visit on Thursday to the Una-Sana Canton, confirmed that the construction of a temporary detention center within the migrant reception center at Lipa is in fact financed by the European Union.
“The construction is financed with the funds of the European Union and it will be a temporary detention center, not a specific type of prison as was speculated.
The detention center has not even started working yet, and it will serve exclusively for the temporary detention of persons who need a security check. Their detention in the 12 existing detention units during the check-up can last a maximum of 72 hours.
After that, if necessary, those persons will be transported further to the Delijaš center in East Sarajevo,” Sattler said.
He emphasized that there is no reason for citizens to be concerned and that this is a step forward in terms of security, especially for all beneficiaries of the services of the Migrant Center at Lipa.
The Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton, Mustafa Ružnić, and the Mayor of Bihać, Elvedin Sedić, are satisfied with the fact that a number of ambiguities have finally been clarified regarding the process of readmission of migrants from the Republic of Croatia, and of course, also regarding the mentioned construction of the detention center.
“We agree that it is necessary to evenly distribute migrants who arrive from the Republic of Croatia through the readmission process in all seven migrant reception centers on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Also, we will insist that the readmission process continues to be applied when it comes to the further return of migrants to the Republic of Serbia, of course, everything within the framework of the law,” said the USC Prime Minister Ružnić, Fena reports.
