Third ‘Chestnut Festival’ opened in BiH City

The third “Chest Fest”, a chestnut festival, was opened today in Cazin, the goal of which is to promote chestnut products and develop the tourism capacities of this region.

The chestnut festival brought real joy to the city in the northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a diverse program that will satisfy the different tastes and interests of visitors. It all started with an educational workshop for the youngest, and the older ones could feel a touch of the past with a walking tour through the historical center of Cazin and enjoy the “Cazin then and now” exhibition. The organizers hope that “Chest Fest” will prove to be a successful and unforgettable event for all participants this year.

“I can freely say that ‘Chest fest’ has already grown into a traditional tourist-type event. From this year, in addition to, of course, the City of Caza, USAID is also our partner, which confirms that the festival is recognized beyond the borders of the Una-Sana Canton, and we are happy to receive more and more inquiries from people from other cities who want to come and enjoy the program that is prepared this year. There is literally something for everyone,” said Ermin Beganović, director of the Center for Culture and Tourism of the City of Cazin.
350 different products and delicacies can be made from chestnuts, the quality of which is unquestionable and beneficial for health. That there are many ways to use it is also evidenced by the wooden houses that have been placed on the Golden Lilies Square where numerous products are displayed.

“We traditionally bake or cook chestnuts, but I think that miracles can be done with them. With the addition of vanilla aroma, a phenomenal taste is obtained. That’s why today, among other things, we are exhibiting balls that contain chestnut puree in addition to Eurocream, croissants with chestnut cream, chestnut ice cream… And what we are particularly pleased about is that more and more people want to try it all,” says Adna Handanagić.

Chestnut forests spread over the wider area of Cazin and are a real rarity. It is interesting that since 2010, chestnut honey has been branded and registered in the intellectual property of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which guarantees the quality, but also preserves the autochthonousness of this honey in the Bosnian Krajina.

“It is one of the healthiest honeys. It has a special aroma, and it helps with colds, coughs, bronchitis, strengthens the heart muscles… Behind our branded honey are laboratory analyses, healthy bees and complete control of production before packaging, so customers who buy honey with this label are completely safe. to get a quality product”, says one of the beekeepers.

In the evening hours, in the following days, everyone who comes will be able to enjoy traditional music and a performance by Amel Ćurić, and the final event, which includes a walk through chestnut forests, is planned for Sunday. Hundreds of citizens have already been registered, they say, AA reports.
