This year’s 30th anniversary edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) opened with the world premiere of the film “After the Summer” by Bosnian director, Oscar winner Danis Tanović.

“After the Summer” is a comedy drama about a young woman who comes to a remote island to solve the issue of family inheritance. In a whirlwind of new emotions, through a series of unforeseen situations, Maja will finally face questions from her past. The search for inheritance becomes a search for one’s own identity, but also for forgiveness.

To start the festival, a simultaneous screening was held at four locations in Sarajevo – at the National Theater, the Coca-Cola Summer Cinema, the Stari Grad Summer Cinema, and at the “Safet Zajko” Summer Cinema, as well as at BH Telecom’s Summer Cinema in Mostar and the Bingo Summer Cinema in Tuzla.

The director of the film, Danis Tanović, said that the premiere of his new film represents a true celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Sarajevo Film Festival. He also talked about the very process of making the film, about the selection of actors.

“I like to mix actors from the region, it was wonderful, interesting and I hope people will enjoy the film,” Tanović said.

Asked about the congratulation he would send to the Sarajevo Film Festival on the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, Tanović briefly said: “If they just continue like this, everything they do, they do great.

Anja Matković, actress and co-screenwriter of the film, said that it was a great honor for her to present the film in Sarajevo.

“It’s an exceptional honor, I’m delighted, overjoyed,” she said.

The audience should love the film because, as she said, it is a Mediterranean story with a lot of emotion and humor. “I think we’re all hungry for some stories like this.”

The main actor in the film “After the Summer” Uliks Fehmiu said that it is a very beautiful and tender scenario, and that this, in addition to working with Tanović and Matković, attracted him to be a part of this production.

“But it’s always a great pleasure for me to come to Sarajevo, regardless of the reason,” said Fehmiu, BHRT writes.
