Deputy Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance and Treasury Vjekoslav Bevanda and Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Office in BiH Manuela Naessl signed the Grant Agreement for Brčko Port today in Sarajevo.
The value of the grant is three million euros and is intended for the modernization of the port, which is considered a priority for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The funds will be used for the rehabilitation of road and rail access to the port, as well as the infrastructure within the port itself.
The Brčko Port was built in 1913 and extended in the period from 1952 to 1962, and the shore of the port was officially used for traffic in 1953.
During the war in the territory of Yugoslavia (1991-1995), and five years later, due to the unresolved interstate status of the Sava River, navigation was suspended and no river-coast transshipment activities were carried out.
With a donation from the Government of Italy in 2001, the gantry cranes were restored and put back into operation, which once again created the conditions for the active participation of the Port of Brčko in the transport system of BiH. Since 2004, the port has been operating under the name Public Enterprise Luka Brčko d.o.o. Brčko District. In September 2006, the port received international status.
