Total of 48 Persons died of Influenza in BiH

The Institute for Public Health of the Republika Srpska, for the past three days, reported that three patients died as a result of severe acute respiratory infections.

The University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska reported that patients were middle and older ages with multiple comorbidities and were positive for influenza A virus.

Since January 21st, 48 persons died from severe acute respiratory infections in this BiH entity.

The Institute reminds citizens that it is necessary to take care of respiratory hygiene and hygiene of their living and working environment, and to respect the recommendations of the competent institutions during visits in hospitals.

RS Minister of Health and Social Welfare Alen Seranic said today that last week was the peak of the flu season and that a fall in the number of people infected is expected.

The Institute warns that the activity of the influenza virus is increasing in most countries in the northern hemisphere and the circulation of influenza A and B viruses are registered.

Data from 104 countries that have officially reported data to show that positive influenza teste samples were the most positive of type A (98.3 percent).

“The influenza virus strains that are currently dominant and currently circulating in the northern hemisphere by the genetic characterization so far correspond to the strains contained in the vaccines. This is a very important piece of information regarding the prevention of this disease and the benefits that everyone who has been vaccinated this year,” was stated by the Institute.
