Six people died when a propane-butane cylinder exploded in a restaurant in the northwestern Czech town of Most, causing a fire in the building, emergency services said on Sunday.

Eight people were injured in the explosion that occurred late Saturday night, and 30 people were evacuated from the restaurant and surrounding buildings, the Czech Fire and Rescue Service said on the social network X.

“According to initial information from eyewitnesses, a heater overturned and caused the fire,” the fire brigade said.

Interior Minister Vit Rakušan told Czech Radio that the cause was likely a propane-butane heater that had overturned in the garden in front of the restaurant.

The fire brigade said it had rescued a seriously injured restaurant guest who had been trapped in the toilet.

There were about 20 guests in the restaurant at the time of the explosion, Czech Radio reported, AA writes.
