tunelspasaMemorial Fund of Canton Sarajevo, in cooperation with other relevant institutions, announced a public call for conceptual design of urban and architectural complex of Tunnel D-B.

The aim of the public call is to find conceptual urban-architectural project to turn this complex into a modern Memorial Centre, since the importance of the Tunnels is beyond the scope of local memories and becomes topic of international importance.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Muharem Fiso said that the Ministry was working in cooperation with the Memorial Fund oon making the tunnel of hope, as the only hope of the citizens who have had the strength to come out and show they can defend themselves and live with dignity, to become one of the most important tourist destinations.

He said that a total of 125,000 tourists visited the tunnel only last year.

Throughout the entire period of the siege of Sarajevo, the Tunnel was the only link with the world outside for the besieged city. Its enormous significance lies in the dedication of citizens to which it served during the war activities, supplied the city with food and necessary medical equipment and eventually became one of the symbols of the city that spent the longest period of time under occupation in the history.

After the war, the Tunnel D-B remained opened for visitors.

Tender documentation has been prepared in digital format, and the candidates / participants are allowed to take it until the 5th of December 2016 in the premises of the Memorial Fund, Sirokac 22, Sarajevo.

All interested candidates can attend a tour and lecture that will be held at the location of the tunnel, or from the Butmir side of the monumental complex Tunnel D-B. Site visit will be held on Tuesday, the 25th of October 2016. Lectures at the site will start at 11 am.
