Tuzla Reclaims Wizz Air Base Status with New Aircraft and Nine Fresh Routes

A ceremonial event was held at Tuzla International Airport today, confirming the return of Wizz Air and the opening of the base in December this year. The news, which has aroused great public interest, also brings concrete results – new jobs, additional routes and stronger connections between Tuzla and European destinations.

“Today is a special moment for Tuzla Airport. We are increasing cooperation with Wizz Air, which includes economic development and the creation of new jobs,” said the General Manager of Tuzla International Airport Dževad Halilčević.

The Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton Irfan Halilagić emphasized that this event is of particular importance after a period of challenges:
“Today we can say that we have turned two difficult years into a story that we are proud of. The Government of Tuzla Canton, with confidence in the airport management, has implemented several infrastructure projects important for development and cooperation with international partners.”

The General Manager of Wizz Air Hungary, Roland Tischner, brought the most concrete news: from December 12 this year, Tuzla will once again become the base of this airline. “We are deploying the first plane in December, and the second in March 2026. These are the latest models with 239 seats – currently the most economical planes on the market,” announced Tischner.

Passengers from Tuzla can already count on new flights to Germany, Sweden, Dutch Cyprus and France from December, and a total of nine lines are planned, which will be introduced in two phases – at the end of 2025 and at the beginning of 2026.

As a reminder, Wizz Air has a fleet of 241 planes, with more than 300 new ones on order, while by 2030 they expect to fly with more than 500 planes. In the past year alone, they transported 63 million passengers and opened 34 new planes in the fleet. The company employs more than nine thousand people, including a significant number of BiH citizens.

“I am glad to be back in Tuzla and to be building this story anew. This base also means better accessibility, secure communication with customers and the continuation of our low-cost policy,” added Tischner.

The opening of the Wizz Air base marks a new beginning for Tuzla Airport, but also an important step in strengthening the economy and international connectivity of the entire canton.
